Religion in Italy: Part of the Culture and the Landscape

Vatican City is in the midst of Rome, but it is recognized as a sovereign state. Just 110 acres, it is the smallest country in the world. But you don't have to visit St. Peter's to come face to face with the cross and symbols of the Catholic Church while touring Italy. In fact, it almost feels impossible to take a photograph without a cross, statue of a saint or church in the background.

Here are a few shots from my first couple of weeks in the country to prove it.
